The show is selected by the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle for their "First Draft: Raise Your Voice" commission. Submission materials included a title, a brief description of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, and a threatening artist statement.

The writers spend the next year writing the show. Between regular meetings in New York and a few writing retreats upstate, the team find time to write multiple drafts and also watch of all the Ocean's movies together.

29-hour reading at Playwrights Horizons, funded by the 5th Avenue Theatre

The writers continue to work on the show and meet regularly both in and outside of The Civilians R&D Group.  In spring, they receive an almost overwhelming amount of good news regarding some upcoming opportunities. They begin to ramp up for "The Summer of Gloria."

The writing team proudly accept The Vivace Award for musical theatre from the Bret Adams and Paul Reisch Foundation, alongside other Idea Award winners Jesse Jae Hoon, Grace McLean, and Beth Henley.
